About Skilmore

Where a 1999 trivia game met a parent's frustration — and became a platform.

Our Mission

Skilmore exists because of a simple observation: people memorise things when they want to win. A father watching his 12-year-old daughter put down her school report card and pick up her phone to play online games with friends had a realisation — the thing keeping kids glued to their screens was not the enemy of learning. It could be the vehicle for it. Skilmore turns competitive trivia into a live social experience, so that the time people spend playing games and chatting with friends becomes time they are also genuinely learning. Questions scroll in real time. The first correct answer wins the points. The faster you play, the more you remember. The more you remember, the better you do — in school, at work, and in life.

What We Build

ChaTrivia — Free Live Trivia for Adults

Free general knowledge trivia for anyone 18 and over. Compete in live rooms against players from around the world across categories spanning history, science, geography, music, movies, African culture, and Afrobeats. Earn coins, climb weekly leaderboards, collect badges, and send virtual gifts to other players. Free to play, ad-supported, with an optional Plus subscription for an ad-free experience.

Skilmore Schools — Live Trivia for Classrooms

Teachers upload their own questions aligned to the curriculum. Each classroom has a private chatroom where students compete against their classmates in real time. Classrooms can merge for inter-class competitions, and schools can connect for inter-school events. The same competitive instinct that makes trivia addictive for adults makes it an extraordinarily effective learning tool for students.

Skilmore Self-Study — Structured Learning Outside the Classroom

Structured trivia for homeschoolers outside the traditional school system, following the CAPS curriculum from Grade 4 to 12 with the same live competitive format that drives retention across all Skilmore industries.

Skilmore Labs — Team Learning for the Workplace

The corporate version of the platform. Teams compete in trivia events, companies use live quiz sessions for staff training and engagement, and tutors run their own private rooms for students. The same insight that applies in classrooms applies in offices: competitive, social, live learning produces better retention and higher engagement than passive training content.

Our Approach

Skilmore is built around one core insight: competition is one of the most powerful learning accelerators available, and it is completely natural. Nobody needs to be forced to remember answers when beating a friend is on the line. Every element of the Skilmore platform — the live scrolling questions, the real-time scoring, the chat, the leaderboards, the coins, the badges — is designed to sustain and deepen that competitive engagement so that learning happens as a byproduct of play rather than as something people have to motivate themselves to do.

The platform works on any device with a browser — no app required for web access. Admin tools give teachers and company managers full control over the content in their rooms, the pace of questions, and the structure of sessions. Every industry on the platform is completely isolated from the others, so a classroom chatroom stays a classroom chatroom, and the adult ChaTrivia community stays separate from the school environment.

Built for Everyone

Skilmore was built by one person — a South African developer and father who had an idea in December 2025 and spent months turning it into a working platform across five interconnected codebases. That origin matters because it means Skilmore is not driven by venture capital returns or growth-at-any-cost metrics. It is driven by a genuine belief that learning and fun are not opposites, and that the right platform can bring them together in a way that makes both better. The platform is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and built for the world — its questions, categories, and community are intentionally international, because knowledge does not have borders and neither should a trivia game.

Skilmore does not sell personal data. User information is used only to operate the platform and is never shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Skilmore launched in 2025. The 12-year-old daughter whose exam results started all of this is doing much better, thank you for asking.
