Tablets, Phones, and Fair Rules for Live Learning

A phone can be a learning device or a distraction machine. The difference is the rule you set before the session starts.

Default: tablet or laptop

Smaller phones make reading questions harder and switching apps easier. If a phone is the only option, use landscape, increase text size, and sit nearby for the first week.

Shared devices should switch learner profiles, not share one identity.

Fair family rules

Session time is learning time. After the session, the usual family screen agreement applies. Mixing the two — “just one game if you finish” — often backfires.

Parents modelling the same rule (no email during the hour) is more persuasive than a lecture.

Try this week

  • Prefer the largest screen you have.
  • Log into the correct learner profile every time.
  • Charge overnight; do not hunt a cable at 09:29.
  • Agree the rule before the first session, not during it.

Put it into a live hour

Reading about homeschooling helps. A session on your child’s actual subjects helps more.
