Homeschool on the Devices You Already Own

You do not need a classroom suite. A modern browser on a laptop, tablet, or phone is enough for live educational sessions — if you set a few house rules.

Browser first, apps later

Skilmore runs in a browser so families are not waiting on an app-store release to start. That also means a shared family tablet can work, as long as each child uses their own learner profile.

Charge devices the night before. A dead tablet at session time is the new “dog ate my homework”.

One screen, one job

During a session, the device is for answering. Notifications off, extra tabs closed. After the session, the same device can go back to being a family iPad.

Parents often join on a second screen to watch progress without hovering over a shoulder.

When connectivity is patchy

Live sessions need a stable connection. If the line drops often, sit closer to the router or use a phone hotspot for the hour. Do not run a download in the background.

Try this week

  • Test the device the day before the first session.
  • Create a short “session mode” checklist: profile, volume, notifications off.
  • Prefer a larger screen for younger readers.
  • Keep a paper backup activity for genuine outages.

Put it into a live hour

Reading about homeschooling helps. A session on your child’s actual subjects helps more.
