Choosing Which Subjects to Practise This Term

You cannot practise everything at once. A term plan with two or three focus subjects keeps live sessions sharp and progress readable.

Follow the child’s gaps, not your anxiety

If mathematics is wobbly, put it on the session calendar twice a week. If history is a joy, keep it in the mix so homeschool does not become remedial only.

Curriculum alignment still matters: practise the grade they are actually in, not last year’s comfort zone or next year’s panic.

One stretch, one secure

Each week, include a subject they find hard and one they feel capable in. Confidence funds the stretch.

Parents can see this in session results: look for topics that are consistently missed, then reteach before the next live hour.

Try this week

  • Pick at most three focus subjects per term.
  • Write them on the learner profile notes so you remember why.
  • Revisit the list at half-term with the child in the room.
  • Do not add a fourth subject to “catch up” — swap one instead.

Put it into a live hour

Reading about homeschooling helps. A session on your child’s actual subjects helps more.
